Critical Learning Phases

Kathy Richardson has defined a Critical Learning Phase as a particular moment in a process at which a significant change or development occurs or a particular condition is reached. The Critical Learning Phase that a child has reached determines the way he or she is able to think with numbers and to use the numbers to solve problems. Classroom teachers can use their understanding of this to guide their instruction and ensure that children will be working at a level that is most appropriate, ensuring maximum growth and understanding.
