Making Sense of Problem Solving is a research-based program to foster the development and use of a wide variety of problem-solving strategies in the mathematics classroom. Research studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of the MSPS program to:
- Increase students' test scores
- Improve students' use of models to solve math problems, and
- Improve students' confidence in and enjoyment of problem solving.
The MSPS program combines comprehensive grade-level teacher resources with activities that stimulate students' critical thinking skills. Each activity is correlated to the NCTM Curriculum Focal Points for that grade level. Professional development for math leaders and classroom teachers is available in a variety of formats.
