Build An Understanding of Algebraic Concepts…Beginning in Elementary Grades!
Contact us at LEAP@didax.com
Algebra understanding is critical for future success in higher level mathematics and in many career pathways. Too often, students reach middle and high school with only a procedural understanding of algebra concepts. The solution? Start earlier to help elementary level students build their algebraic understanding so they’re prepped for middle and high school courses.
The LEAP program is the first early algebra curriculum for K-5 students. Supporting research confirms that introducing algebra instruction in the early grades impacts future success.
The LEAP Program: Developing Algebraic Concepts Over Time and Across Grades
• A coherent, connected approach to early algebra across the elementary grades
• Supplements any math curriculum
• Includes 18-20 one-hour lessons at each grade level
• Flexible implementation throughout the school year
• Includes complete teacher support and assessment resources
The LEAP curriculum is connected and reflects a progression of increasingly sophisticated concepts across the grades, all based on a set of algebraic thinking practices. The program is based on thorough research and developed by TERC in Cambridge, MA in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Texas-Austin.
Download the LEAP Circle Cards for use in K-2 lessons(see the materials section of each Planning Guide).
