PRISM: Grand Opening

Math Labs by 10Story are engaging project-based curriculum kits that turn abstract math concepts into hands-on learning. Through real-world scenarios, physical models, collaboration, and discussion, students from elementary through high school build math develop the conceptual understanding, confidence, and algebraic thinking they need for future success.

In PRISM: Grand Opening, student teams design and build departments of a pet supply store. Students lay out parking lots and pet play zones on oversized maps, construct display tables, and design store signs.

In about 10 class sessions, students start by tiling surfaces and counting unit squares to build a concrete sense of area. They measure side lengths with rulers, connect those measurements to multiplication, and begin computing area and perimeter from dimensions rather than counting. By the later sessions, they're combining area and perimeter reasoning to solve multi-step design problems — choosing materials, checking that departments fit the floor plan, and calculating costs.
