What are the system requirements for the Virtual Manipulatives?
The Virtual Manipulatives are designed to work on any platform. They are web based and created in HTML5. They work best in the Google Chrome browser, but will also work in Safari, Firefox, and Edge with some limitations. We recommend using the most up-to-date version of the browser for the best experience.
Also, JavaScript needs to be enabled in your browser for the apps to function correctly.
Are there apps available for the Virtual Manipulatives for Android or iOS?
There are not standalone apps for mobile platforms. Since the Virtual Manipulatives are web based, they will run in the browser on both tablets and smartphones.
Why don’t the Virtual Manipulatives work like they do in the tutorial videos?
If the Virtual Manipulatives are not functioning as expected, please try the following:
Try updating your browser to the latest version. Google Chrome browser is preferred.
Ensure that JavaScript is enabled on your device.
Why are the Virtual Manipulatives not working with the touchscreen on my laptop or tablet?
Windows: Touchscreen issues are difficult to diagnose. If you are using a Windows device, check that your touchscreen is fully enabled. If this does not correct the issue, please check with your device manufacturer or network administrator to ensure that your device is configured correctly.
ChromeOS/Chromebook: If your Chromebook device is managed by your organization, please contact your network administrator to help troubleshoot any issues. If your device is not managed by your organization, please contact your device manufacturer to ensure your device is configured correctly.
Apple/Mac: Try using the Virtual Manipulatives in the Chrome browser. If this does not correct the issue, please contact your device manufacturer to ensure your touchscreen device is configured correctly.
Do the Virtual Manipulatives work with Chromebook devices?
Yes! If the manipulatives are not working on your Chromebook or ChromeOS device, please refer to the information above. Most of the issues with Chromebook devices arise from device settings that are managed by your local organization, so your network administrator is a good place to start if you encounter an issue with the Virtual Manipulatives.
Can I write on the Virtual Manipulatives?
Yes, there is a Pencil Tool on many of the Virtual Manipulatives. Where you do not see one you may choose to use one from your video conferencing platform. They often include an “Annotate” tool that allows you to write on the presentation screen.
Am I allowed to use the Virtual Manipulatives in my classroom?
Didax, the publisher grants permission to individuals or teachers to view or display the Virtual Manipulatives for use in their own classroom or with their own children. The Virtual Manipulatives may also be embedded into an online learning platform that is accessed by students and parents to support virtual learning.
